The meditation we do on a Wednesday night is a meditation on the 16th Karmapa (also called Guru Yoga) and involves using a vibration or mantra and a visualisation of the Karmapa as a form of energy and light. It is a very powerful tool for enlightenment. It was given to Lama Ole Nydahl by H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and is specifically used as a group practice in all Diamond way buddhist centres in the west.
We start the actual meditation at about 8pm so if you are a first timer please arrive by 7.30pm so we can give you a short explaination. The meditation is guided so you can just follow the instructions and relax.
The meditation itself lasts for about 20 to 30 minutes but we usually stay a little longer to chat, ask questions and enjoy the great British cup of tea.
No special equipment is necessary as we provide meditation cushions but be prepared to sit in a cross legged position (we'll show you how!). Therefore, it's advisable not to wear tight fitting trousers or jeans. However, if you have a favourite cushion you are welcome to bring it along.
If you find it difficult to sit cross legged you can use a chair as the most important thing is to have a straight back.
